Beyond groundbreaking research, they sustain innovation through mentoring, emotional labor, and team cohesion, vital contributions that remain largely unrecognized. Centering these roles reveals a more complete and inclusive vision of how STEM truly advances.
Speaker: Shreya Telang, Quality Engineer, Continuous Improvement Advocate, Dedicated Biomedical Engineer with a Clinical Innovation Edge
As a Bioengineer, Shreya innovates medical products to impact the quality of life and improve the well-being of the user. She specializes in the application of human-centered design principles to identify the root problem, define a succinct set of needs through observation and insight, and ideate solutions to produce a highly user-focused outcome. For her, user input is paramount at each step. She is obsessed with hands-on application of design, including use of CAE programs (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and rapid prototyping methods throughout the design process, and can develop a product at any point through its life cycle, from the conception of the idea to prepare for product launch.
Throughout her academic career at the University of Pittsburgh, Shreya has had the opportunity to work with amazing people and innovative medical devices. She is passionate about this as she discovered the answer through various projects during the pursuit of her master’s degree. The smile that emanated from the end-user and their feedback after a successful prototype demo was nothing short of riveting. She enjoyed combining creative energy with critical thinking to brainstorm ideas and communicate effectively in a team dynamic.
Before attending the University of Pittsburgh, Shreya worked in the medical device industry serving under a multitude of engineering roles from sales, quality to product specialist. During her bachelors in India, she studied the design and development of medical products.
She has always been skilled with the ability to look beyond the traditional perspective. Her natural curiosity and optimistic viewpoint have led her to find alternative solutions. Shreya hopes to enhance her career through her MS Bioengineering by working at an engineering company that develops products that create solutions to help those in need.
